Frequently asked questions
Short answers to common questions about quotes, bookings, documents, customs, insurance and the company. They are grouped under four headings so you can find yours fast. If your question is not here, write to us at info@ayershipping.com.
Getting a quote
Q: What do I need to send for a quote?
A: The cargo type, weight, volume or dimensions, number of packages, origin, destination, ready date and Incoterm. Tell us early if the cargo is dangerous, needs a set temperature or is oversize. The enquiry page lists all eight details.
Q: What if I do not have every detail?
A: Send what you have. We will ask for the rest.
Q: What does a quote cover?
A: It says what is included and what is not, so you can see which costs fall outside it. Read how to read a freight quote.
Q: How do I request a quote?
A: Use the enquiry form or email info@ayershipping.com.
Bookings and documents
Q: Do you have a tracking portal?
A: No. We update you by email at the main handovers of a job.
Q: Which documents will I need?
A: It depends on the goods and the route. A commercial invoice and a packing list are common. The shipping documents guide lists the usual ones.
Q: Do you own trucks or warehouses?
A: No. We arrange trucks with carriers and storage with third-party warehouses.
Q: What happens if a date moves?
A: Schedules, inspections and weather can move dates. We tell you, explain the effect and agree next steps with you.
Customs and insurance
Q: Do you make customs declarations?
A: We coordinate them. Licensed customs brokers make the declaration, and we pass them the documents and check the details against the cargo.
Q: Can you ship dangerous goods?
A: Often, through licensed handlers and carriers. Send the safety data sheet with your enquiry. See dangerous goods.
Q: Are you an insurer?
A: No. We arrange cargo insurance with insurers on the terms you choose. See cargo insurance.
Q: Do you pay duties and taxes?
A: Duties and taxes depend on the goods and the destination, and who pays depends on the Incoterm and the agreement. Say who should pay when you enquire, and we state it in the quote.
