CBM calculator

CBM means cubic metre, the unit used to measure cargo volume. Enter the size and number of your packages to get the total. Use it to compare FCL and LCL, to check a quote, or to size a load before you ask us for a booking.

CBM calculator

Enter the dimensions of one piece.

How it works

For each type of package, multiply length by width by height in metres. Then multiply by the number of pieces. Add up the results to get the total CBM. If you measure in centimetres, divide each side by 100 first.

CBM = length (m) x width (m) x height (m) x number of pieces.

Use outer dimensions, including pallets, crates and any packaging that sticks out.

Worked example

A carton measures 60 cm x 40 cm x 50 cm. In metres that is 0.6 x 0.4 x 0.5.

  • One carton: 0.6 x 0.4 x 0.5 = 0.12 CBM.
  • 80 cartons: 0.12 x 80 = 9.6 CBM.

If you also ship 4 pallets, each 1.2 m x 1.0 m x 1.5 m, each pallet is 1.8 CBM, so the pallets add 7.2 CBM. The total is 9.6 + 7.2 = 16.8 CBM.

Limits

  • It gives volume only. It does not check weight, which can set the charge for dense cargo.
  • It uses the full box around each piece. Odd shapes waste space in a container.
  • It does not account for stacking limits, gaps or how the cargo is loaded.
  • It does not give a price. Rates depend on the route, date and carrier.
  • Always measure the packed size, not the product size.
